After participating in events related to the International Science Council (ISC) Midterm Members Meeting held in Beijing, a delegation of European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) leaders paid a special visit to the headquarters of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) on 20 October 2026.
The delegation included Professor Giuseppina Padeletti, President of E-MRS and a researcher at the Italian National Institute for Materials Science; Professor Sanjay Mathur, Chair of the E-MRS Scientific Committee and Second Vice President of IUMRS, from the University of Cologne; and Professor Joan Ramon Morante, former President of E-MRS, from the University of Barcelona. During the visit, they learned about the operation of the IUMRS Headquarters since it moved to Beijing and spoke highly of the work carried out there.
The visiting guests toured the headquarters’ office environment and supporting facilities. They expressed strong appreciation for the excellent working conditions, comprehensive operational support, and international reception capability of the headquarters. They also highly praised the Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) for its active efforts to ensure the smooth operation of the IUMRS Headquarters.
Since 1 January 2026, the IUMRS Headquarters has been officially operating in Beijing. After the relocation, C-MRS has provided full support in office space development, facility configuration, daily administration, international liaison, and visitor reception. C-MRS has also purchased a new Mercedes-Benz business vehicle (License Plate: 京HPQ666), further improving official travel and international reception services for the IUMRS.
During the exchanges, E-MRS representatives noted that the relocation of the IUMRS Headquarters to China marks a new stage in IUMRS development. As an adhering body of IUMRS, E-MRS will firmly support the work of the IUMRS Headquarters and actively cooperate in fulfilling its responsibilities and obligations in IUMRS affairs. They also proposed strengthening exchanges and collaboration among member societies to jointly promote academic exchange and international cooperation in global materials science and engineering, thereby further enhancing the international influence of IUMRS. They also expressed the hope that other adhering bodies would have the opportunity to visit the IUMRS Headquarters and learn from C-MRS’s management and operation experience.
C-MRS expressed its gratitude to E-MRS for its long-standing support and stated that it will continue to ensure the operation of the IUMRS Headquarters, continuously improve service support, and strengthen communication and collaboration with member societies, thereby supporting the stable operation and long-term development of the IUMRS.
