Adhering Bodies

African Materials Research Society (African-MRS)

African MRS emerged in the year 2000 at the US/Africa Materials Workshop in Pretoria, South Africa. Since 2002, African MRS has been organizing its biennial conferences which took place in various venues across Africa. In 2017, African MRS moved their Secretariat Office to Botswana under the leadership of Dr Samuel Chigome.

Australia Materials Research Society (A-MRS)

The Australian Materials Research Society (AMRS) was established in 1988 as the Australian Adhering Body to the IUMRS. AMRS is not a society in its own right but an umbrella body that connects to the materials science and engineering research community in Australia through members of relevant professional societies or networks.

Brazilian Materials Research Society (B-MRS)

B-MRS was created in 2001 to face the national need for multidisciplinary initiatives. The main actions of the Society are: Annual Meeting with thematic symposia (more than 1,500 participants), Lives & Webinars on technical and entrepreneurship issues, University Chapters gathering teams of students from around the country, monthly newsletter in Portuguese and English.

Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS)

C-MRS was established in 1991 as a not-for-profit organization to serve for the materials scientists and the materials research and development communities, as well as for central and local governments of China. C-MRS is one of the founding members of IUMRS. It has more than 10,000 individual members, 200 group members and 25 academic branches. C-MRS organizes the annual meetings with the scale of 5000-6000, publishes academic books on advanced materials, the annual materials industry reports, the reports of frontier materials and popular science books.

European Materials Research Society (E-MRS)

E-MRS has more than 4,000 members from industry, government, academia and research laboratories, who meet regularly to debate recent technological developments of functional materials. The E-MRS differs from many single-discipline professional societies by encouraging scientists, engineers and research managers to exchange information on an interdisciplinary platform, and by recognizing professional and technical excellence by promoting awards for achievement from student to senior scientist level.

Materials Research Society of India (MRS-I)

MRSI was established in 1989.  It became an Adhering Body of IUMRS in 1998.   It currently has 4200 Life members and 173 Honorary members from outside India. MRSI had organized the IUMRS-ICA 1998, IUMRS -ICAM 2007, IUMRS-ICA 2013 and IUMRS-ICYRAM 2016 conferences, among many other activities.

Materials Research Society, Indonesia (MRS-INA)

MRS-INA was established in 2011 and became an adhering body of IUMRS in 2017. The goal of IUMRS-INA is to promote materials research activities and applications in industries, as well as materials science education in Indonesia. MRS-INA currently has more than 400 members. In a short history, MRS-INA has organized many activities including IUMRS-ICA 2018.

Materials Research Society, Japan (MRS-J)

MRS-J was established by Prof. S. Somiya and Prof. M. Doyama in 1989, just after MRS International Meeting on Advanced Materials and has been a founding member of adhering bodies to IUMRS since 1990. MRS-J has aspired to be crossing points to, or bridges to, various communities of science and engineering for advanced materials including ever-growing interdisciplinary ones, covering from fundamental science toward a wide spectrum of applications of materials. MRS-J has launched its own international conference, Materials Research Meeting (MRM), since 2019.

Materials Research Society, Korea (MRS-K)

MRS Korea was established in 1991 under industry/university/institute cooperation in order to contribute to the development of the new material research using wide variety of knowledge in physics, chemistry, medicine, etc. as well as activation of industry-university technology exchange in material science and engineering fields of metal, electromagnetic and new material. It became an Adhering Body of IUMRS in 1991. It currently has 1,500 members. MRS Korea organizes two conferences (spring and fall) every year.

Materials Research Society, Mexico (MRS-M)

A non-profit organization established in 1990 to serve the rapidly developing materials science and engineering community in México. It has 2,156 members. Became an adhering body of IUMRS in 1992. Since 1991, organizes the annual International Materials Research Congress – IMRC, as its major activity.

Materials Research Society, Russian (MRS-R)

Materials Research Society, Singapore (MRS-S)

MRS-S was established in 1999 as a not-for-profit organization to serve a rapidly emerging materials science community in Singapore. It became an adhering body of IUMRS in 2002, and currently has more than 2,000 members. MRS-S organizes the biennial ICMAT conference series, among many activities.

Materials Research Society, Taiwan (MRS-T)

MRS-T was established in 1968 as a not-for-profit organization and became an adhering body of IUMRS in 1988 as one of founding members. Currently it has more than 1600 individual members and 60 group members. The annual meeting is held in mid-November with 1000-1300 attendance.  MRS-T also sponsors Materials Chemistry and Physics (MCP), an international journal which is published monthly by Elsevier B.V.

Materials Research Society of Thailand (MRS-Th)

MRS-Th was founded on March 2, 2016. It is a non-for-profit interdisciplinary organization to serve as a community for collaboration to advance materials research for sustainable development of Thailand. Since then, MRS-Th has organized many activities to promote productive collaboration both inside and outside Thailand. MRS-Th became an adhering body of IUMRS in 2017. It currently has 870 members.
